Back In Action

School starts in two days so I'm back in the saddle again. It's been a fun and abusive summer:
Lets see...
-Lost 40 pounds on Steve's set, got my cycling average up to 16 MPH
-Got involved in a war between a ghost tour guide and some vampire wanna be's
-Still trying to learn how to surf, body board pretty good now
-Refined my grilled chicken recipes a bit more

And what does the fall hold in store for me:
-War epic camera opping
-Nine Inch Nails concert, I'll find a way to wing it
-Write a feature, already working on it
-Get up and stay up on my board
-Tackle the beast known as Avid

Epics

Yesterday I was lucky enough to participate in the making of a Greek Epic. I was the director of photography and an actor. And yes I had a greek tunic. I played and bandit and engaged a champion of the gods in a sword fight. Being the mere mortal that I am, I lost;but it was fun to lay the hack down.
To get into the role of greek I grew a beard and I actually still have it. It is shaved under the chin and on the cheekbones. In style it is very similar to the beard of that creepy Hearst company representive for all you Deadwood fans.
Last night I went to see Kung Fu Hustle, and damn was it a good movie. It was funny, inteligent, and shot beautifully. I would recommend this to anyone.
After seeing Kung Fu Hustle I went over to Sky Kevin's place and watched Hard Eight, which is a very good film. It is about a down on his luck guy who is taught by an old timer how to huslte casinos and stay afloat. Naturally he screws it up, I won't tell you any more, you'll have to go rent it. Trust me on this one.

A Weekend to Myself

After spending the two previous weekends on the Cacophone, I was able to have some time to myself this weekend. Gripping and being an electric takes a lot out of you. So the big news for this weekend is that I bought and hung a bird feeder outside my bedroom window.
I went to a big cook out on Friday night and had a blast. The entire Cacophone crew was there. We had C-stands on standy with tarps in case it rained and we needed to throw up a tent in a hurry. That is something that Adrienne, Chris and myself became quite adept at over the past few weeks. We looked like a bunch of drowned rats some days.

I hurt all over, I either need a hot tub or a visit to a massage parlor. It's been a good first week back at school. I've found work as usual, and now I'm going to go and work on the yard.

Aaton gets a tryout

I rolled off about three hundred feet of film today with my mom. We shot all sorts of things all around the island. I am going to create a DVD for her to watch and relax when she is at home.

Last night I tried to strike my 2K and succeded in only tripping breakers.

Downloaded the soundtrack to Deadwood tonight. Watched three episodes of season one also this night.

Hat

Hello dear readers, all three of you, I finally got a DP hat for myself today and I am quite psyched. Before you ask, no, it is not a ballistic helmet, nor a riot helmet, nor a corrections helmet, nor a helmet of any kind. The brain bucket that I now have is a leather, wide brimmed... something. It ain't no sombrero, not exactly a cowboy hat, not a bowler or a derby. It's, well, a DP hat.

I did some home redecorating today with the help of my mother. The place looks quite smashing now. Tonight she and I watched three episodes of Deadwood puting us halfway through season one.

and one last thought... Jack McCall was a cocksucker.

Back on the coast

Well, well, back in paradise and it's raining. Lovely. I spent today shopping with my mom. Finally got a decent TV stand; I get to build it tomorrow. I also bought the first season of Deadwood on DVD. It's sad, until tonight I had never seen the first two episodes of my favorite TV show.
The Pilot episode looked a lot more polished than the following episodes from a cinematography standpoint. This is for good reason: in the credits there were nine electricians listed, noramlly it's just two or three.
I don't feel so hot, I'm going to bed.

I traveled to Evansville, Indiana today and purchased some equipment. I went with the intention of buying an Aaton LTR-7, I did. It has a massive zoom; to the tune of 10-150mm. That would be 20-300mm on a 35mm still camera, get the picture?

While I was buying this I was offered a Mole-Richardson 2000 watt fresnel and stand for fifty bucks. It was worth at least twenty times that new, so who was I to argue. Matt also gave me 800 feet of film. Nice.

I was also able to have lunch with my good friend Matt, and dinner with compadre Joe. I also got to meet with good friends like Dr. Gahan.

I got home and was quite happy to see that SkyKevin's P90 has in fact arrived.

Tomorrow I begin the drive south.

Before anyone misconstrues this as my affirmation of manly love for my friend Sin, be informed that today I picked up a copy of book two in the Sin City series. It is something else, and that is a good thing. I can hardly wait for this to hit the local multiplex, even the one that smells like ass.

Tonight I saw a new episode of Deadwood, and someone lost their ass-cherry. Who? I will not say.

In reference to SkyKevin's statement that I am not fully disclosing my love of firearms as though I am required to by contract let me say this: Right before I checked on my friend's blog I was in fact hunting down Model Gun Corporation produced Ingram's so that he may have one for his future features.

To see to it that until I can ascertain the proper place and price to procure one from he will have to be content with the firearm replica succor that I offer upon my return to island. In short, I am bringing two KSC produced gas blow back Glock-18C's and a pair of handsome Tokyo Marui electric blow back Colt Combat Delta's. This, in addition to the yet to arrive FN-P90 I have thus sent payment for, shall make a fine complement to the already on station Tokyo Marui MP5-SD6, and my lovely 92F and USP Comp replicas in my keep.

Should SkyKevin require further firepower, I am also coming with my CAR-15 and possibly my Springfield 1911A1.

True, I am a bit of a firearm fan, albeit mainly one of a scholastic nature, I am for better or worse, SkyKevin's armorer.

Oh, and should anyone fucking care, I now know the reason for and drawback of aluminum cased 30mm depleted uranium projectiles. I find myself yet again with a new DU story. I'm not sure many people have one depleted uranium story, yet alone the uncanny ability I have to collect them the way cocksuckers collect calluses on their knees.

mmm... Burger

I've been back in my native state now for a few days and today I enjoyed a wonderful burger and fries from Johnny's Big Burger. The food is so good it is hard to put into words, or at least hard to do so without using explicatives as adjectives.
I am leaving town in two days for a trip north into Indiana to procure an Aaton LTR-7 16mm camera. I am quite psyched by this, and cannot wait to roll some footage with it.
I have had an opportunity to inspect my parents' new store and it is amazing. They managed to get some cool lighting that I swear is close to 5600 degrees K because it makes the product look so good. The store is well thought out and now my parents each have there own office, the finance and insurance guy has an office, and even good ol' Matt has his own office. Our service department is the size of the entire previous facility.
Speaking of which I tried to procure it as a studio, but seeing as how it is on the market, I cannot be surprised or disappointed with being rebutted.
I had dinner with a friend from high school last night, and then saw Constantine. It was quite entertaining.
Oh, I coming back to town with some mad props; if you catch my drift.

End of the Term

This is the end my friends. As a film student who prefers to be on set than anywhere else I can truly say that I am happy that the end is near. I think that I have crewed quite a bit this qaurter and I'm trying to think what the total number of hours, feet of film, and sanity lost will total up to be.
